In 2000 / 2001, Matt was invited to be ‘team photographer’ on two ‘voyages’ to Antarctica - aboard 67’ converted Challenge yacht ‘2041’. The routes took them from Tierra Del Fuego near Cape Horn across the Southern Ocean towards King George Island, and then along the Antarctic peninsula to Lemaire Passage.
The UNESCO-supported voyages were part of an environmental ‘clean-up’ project called Mission Antarctica, led by polar traveller and UNESCO Ambassador for Youth, Robert Swan. Matt’s diary reports were sent ‘live’ to the Geographical website, and ‘Antarctica Clean-Up’ photo essay appeared in Geographical Magazine
