In 1998 Matt travelled to the Central Kalahari Desert, in Botswana, southern Africa – to photograph and interview indigenous ‘Bushmen’ or ‘San’ communities. His first experience of meeting San hunter-gatherers was as an assistant on an ethnographic film for Discovery Channel in 1994
Four year’s later, Matt was informed of the removal of another group from their traditional habitat and decided to find, photograph and meet the ‘last’ hunters of the Central Kalahari to tell their story. He subsequently photographed ‘bushmen’ in various locations across southern Africa and wrote on the ‘Trail of the Bushmen’ for Geographical Magazine
His images were chosen for exhibition posters at the World Expo 2000 Africa Pavilion
